Bangkok, also known as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, is Thailand's most populous metropolitan area. Despite being an overwhelming city that can sometimes be too much to take, Bangkok also offers some interesting and relaxing spots scattered throughout the city. It’s a visual feast of gold-tipped temples, gleaming skyscrapers, and streets bustling with food stalls, tuk-tuks, with a mix of different cultures and religions. Amdaeng and its historical importance

Settled along the Chao Phraya River, a unique red boutique hotel goes by the name of Amdaeng Riverside Hotel. The small hotel allows you to wake up with one of the best views on the river, with charming boats passing by all day long.

Amdaeng is a traditional Thai title for unmarried women. Amdaeng, the hotel, on the other hand, was not chosen at random. The name was chosen to honour the woman who originally owned the land on which the hotel stands. It was also intended to introduce the younger generation to the true meaning of Amdaeng since it is no longer used casually.

The interior reminded us slightly of a colonial era while having some beautiful Thai elements. A mixture of being perfectly staged and being all over the place. We love every detail—the floor, the tiny elevator, and the little wooden boats that sometimes park right next to the hotel. The space feels intimate, unique, and the feeling of having the water next to us definitely adds something to the whole experience.

The impressive displays of reverence, decorated inside and out with intricate bas-reliefs re-telling Buddhist artwork, never fail to capture one's attention.

The woodwork on the windows and doors, combined with the colour palettes, tells a bold tale about culture and heritage. Each and every deco element speaks for itself.

The rooms and the restaurant

The rooms are our favourite tenet of this holy grail. The Amdaeng hotel has three different types of rooms: the Deluxe, the Riverside Grand Deluxe, and the River Suite.

While we love all of their rooms, L'escale has a particular affinity for the spacious River Suite, which has the best view of the Chao Phraya River. The room's elevated high ceilings provide an exclusive view of the gleaming Golden Pagoda Tri-mitr Temple and the top portion of the Pathum Wanaram Temple. Dim lights, chandeliers, river, and glistening sunset give the place the very vibe it beholds.

The layout of the restaurant is just like you've seen in Asian period dramas: elegant woodwork, surrounded by plants outside, every little detail so meticulously done. The food, like the interior, is tasteful, especially that prepared by Thailand's renowned Passionate Chef Khun Bam. You can taste the love and passion in the food, which is full of flavour and leaves an exotic taste in your mouth whenever you think of Thailand.

You can also have dinner right next to the river as the sunset tints the tendrils of clouds lingering in the evening sky and boats pass by while neon signs on the buildings pop into vivid life.
