Acacia Tulum, a healing ambience

A Mexican jungle retreat near the center of Tulum

Imagine spending your vacation somewhere hidden in a jungle retreat, relaxing, and feeling miles away from the outside world but more connected with your inner self. Acacia is a lovely property with nine secluded cottages in a tropical sanctuary. Everything was created with natural and local resources, which was something that seemed important to Catherine and Enrique, the owners. To them, having handcrafted furniture and shaping everything from scratch is what defines Acacia, the vacation spot of your fantasies.

Backstory of the healing paradise

Acacia, founded by Catherine and Enrique, was built out of a love story. They initially met a few years ago while Enrique was studying in Montreal, where Catherine is from. He is originally from Tabasco, a southern Mexican city known as the "Texas of Mexico."

Enrique's family is in the construction industry, so this is something that comes naturally to him. He was not new to building dwellings. So the pair decided to go to Tabasco and attempt to live there. Catherine, on the other hand, soon realised that Tabasco was not for her; she felt out of place. The city is an extremely industrial place, leaving no room for imagination or creativity. Eventually, both Enrique and Catherine felt that something was amiss; something they desired to create, something with a vision, couldn't be done here. So, they decided to move for the better.

In 2017, they decided to explore Tulum a little bit more and see if it could become their home. Tulum was a totally different place back then—a sliver of land with almost nothing. But they thought it would become a significant vacation spot as the world craved peace in this period, so they chose to relocate there. Catherine and Enrique finally acquired a piece of land with the last of their money, having no specific plan in mind. There were no roads and no electricity to get there. Everything required effort and time, so they began to consider their options more thoroughly.

Ultimately, taking the first step to make their decision right, they finally built Cabana 1. The little house was created with no specific vision in terms of style and beauty, but it was only something to get them started. They created it with no idea that there would be a second one. But it gave Enrique the freedom to be as creative as he wanted, to craft everything himself. Enrique stated that he made some mistakes at first, but that this was all part of the process and that he learned a lot from them.

They eventually erected five little houses that were more primitive than they are today. They began on Airbnb as a simple approach to bring more visitors to Acacia. They were highly famous, and their cabanas were nearly always fully occupied. Tulum was growing at the time, making it the ideal time for them to begin. And on a vacation from a hectic schedule, people loved the fact that Enrique and Catherine were always working on the site and that everything was handcrafted by them. The idea that maybe all of the world is not robotic fascinated them a lot.

They soon realised that five cabanas might not be enough and that extra rooms were required. They now have new cabanas that are larger, with higher ceilings that resemble lofts. All of them are unique and different, so that everyone can find something they like.

From one cabana to nine , Acacias Tulum present amenities

Acacia already has nine cabanas, but the acreage permits them to build many more. They want to take their time and continue to trust the process as they have in the past. Enrique hopes to try something new in the future. However, they want to keep things small and avoid having too many houses. They prioritise excellence above abundance.

Some cabanas are smaller than others, and some even have a fully stocked kitchen, allowing you to stay as long as you want. Because the rooms were not built at the same time, they are all aesthetically pleasing and somewhat different from one another. At Acacia, you can fully unwind, enjoy the pleasant weather, and roam about the property, where there are a few water dispensers. Something that may appear pretty ordinary to others, but because we should avoid drinking tap water in Mexico, these water dispensers are actually life savers most of the time. Some suites even have their own private outdoor bath, which is a lovely perk.

The latest cabanas are really opulent, with minimalist decor. And, yes, the apartment might seem a little raw at times, with a door that requires a little more power than the other to close, but that's the beauty of Acacia. Everything was handcrafted with affection, and we can sense it. Acacia is delicate and intimate, but most importantly, it is soothing to the soul.

The hosts also employ sustainable and locally sourced materials whenever feasible, to go with their idea of everything handcrafted, which adds to the uniqueness of their lodgings. Through this concept, guests may support small business owners during their stay, from the design, which uses materials unique to Mexico, to the items such as soaps and other bathroom essentials manufactured by local artists, which is so kind and amazing.

Trip to Acacia, a well-being boast?

Acacia, on the other hand, wants to focus on wellbeing rather than just being a nice host. As a corollary, you may now enjoy ice baths, which appear to be impossible but are achievable with considerable concentration. This type of meditation combines breathing exercises with attention, which can result in a variety of possible advantages, such as cleaning and restoring balance to our mind, body, and soul .Which is easy to do here because you are essentially connecting with the person within you and filtering out any unnecessary thoughts.

Catherine and Enrique understand that Tulum may be fleeting, and they hope that Acacia will someday become a brand and expand into something more. They would like to maybe move to a different place and build a second location, perhaps near the Pacific Ocean. With no specific thoughts in mind, just something both of them appear to be comfortable with, they take one step at a time, constantly following their instincts. Which has undoubtedly served them well during their Tulum journey and which they anticipate will continue in the future.

Our Thoughts

Acacia provides the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, which is exactly what one looks for in a stress-free vacation. You can expect a weekend of fresh air and relaxation as soon as you arrived at this exquisite jungle side oasis. From the luxurious cabanas providing picture-perfect views and more than enough room, to the vast range of amenities throughout the property and nearby attractions, you will have a memorable trip. And if you ever return to Tulum, Acacia is definitely worth a revisit.
